With this years show season coming to a close, its now time to stop having fun and start the long road to recovery of both the Chieftain and Centurion MBT's. We would like to welcome two new friends to Turrets and Tracks Allan (retired REME ASM) and Richard (ex REME Corporal).
With this explosion of 35 years of working with these vehicles Allan and Richard are making life a whole lot easier for turrets and tracks to achieve the goals set out by lord and master.
Chieftain
We finally have finished removing all the controls and driver's seat allowing us to restore the driver's compartment and gain access to the heater, drinking water bottles and ammo storage bin's.
Centurion
Work has finally started with regards to putting back everything we have taken out and restored from the turret.

We are pleased to announce the opening of the collection to the public next year with dates and time to follow shortly.

1st August 2007
lots of interesting things have happened over the last three months to some of the vehicles as follows.
At last we have started work on our Chieftain MBT, finding we have a problem with the battery isolator and two of the battery terminals are badly corroded and will need replacing.
On the Sultan there has been a few problems trying to find the petrol leak on such a large tank!! (that without a turret) HA HA. managed to obtain a second hand fuel tank which has been tested and fitted successfully.
After purchasing one Land Rover 110 some time last year we have finally take the plunge and have started overhauling the front end. this will include new springs, turrets!! (without a barrel) HA HA and polly bush kit will be fitted at this point.
We have now purchased a second Land Rover 110 Station Wagon (Code Name Dennis) complete with seriously cracked cylinder head (blue smoke coming out cooling system) but now repaired following a very sucessfull trip to War and Peace show and the purchase of a bargain recon head for £30.00.

The winter maintenance programe is now complete. The team managed to renew the BV206 front drive sprocket, serviced the engine and drive train. Next inline was a repair to the leaking water pump on the CVRT Sultan this required the removal of the J60 engine.
We diagnosed the Saladin problems as failure of the hydraulic pump drive shaft splines this was rectfied by fitting a whole new recon Hydraulic pump / compressor unit. this was a very arduous and time consuming task.
Turrets and Tracks has been invited to parade its Saladin in the prestigeous Household Cavalry Pageant which will be held on Horse Guard Parade London on the 12th of June 2007 in front of HRH Queen Elizaberth II. In view of this fact it is appropriate that the Saladin is made to look her best, so we have completly stripped and resprayed her inside and out. A full service of the engine, transmission and drive train was carried out she now looks and drives the part. (see photos)

With all the shows finished for this year, it was time for the small arms to be unloaded from their dedicated mobile storage boxes so tonight we took the Vickers, 50 Cal, SLR, Boyes, 2 Lee Enfields, Bren and the 81mm Mortar and placed them in their winter store ready for cleaning and oiling another week.

The tents were paletised up for the winter along with ground sheets, tables and chairs etc.

We are now drawing up a programme of maintenance and repair work for the winter and the first job is going to be, diagnose the steering pump noises [groans] on the Saladin. The Old Girl has been lacking steering and brake power for some time and we suspect either a problem with the hydraulic pump or some form of air leak into the system.

The latest addition to the small arms section of the web site is the Bren LMG [Light Machine Gun], L.4 Bren, S.L.R., Sten and Sterling Carbine, Revolver .38", Pistol Glock 9mm and Rifle 5.56mm SA 80
